JURISPRUDENCE FOR GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT VIRTUAL CONFERENCE

UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA ENUGU CAMPUS

DEPARTMENT OF JURISPRUDENCE AND LEGAL THEORY

FACULTY OF LAW

VIRTUAL CONFERENCE

THEME: “JURISPRUDENCE FOR  GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT

DATE:  WEDNESDAY, 31ST MARCH, 2021  VENUE: ONLINE ZOOM

BACKGROUND OF CALL

Jurisprudence, or legal theory, is the theoretical study of law. Scholars of jurisprudence seek to explain the nature of law in its most general form and provide a deeper understanding of legal reasoning, legal systems, legal institutions, and the role of law in society. Global development on the other hand refers to the development of greater quality of life for humans. The concept covers issues such as sustainable governance, health care, education, gender equality, social and political infrastructure, economics, human rights, environment and other social issues with political index. The theme of the conference is “Jurisprudence for Global Development” and the objective is to explore a meaningful jurisprudence that will not only ground but interface with contemporary global development agenda. The conceptual basis of this conference is birthed in the nature, scale and extent of unspeakable social and political challenges which appear to be a function of meager theoretical thinking in the global world of today. In this exercise, we intend to seek for answers, theories, resolutions and explanations that would dramatically transform the landscape of holistic global development, and using this insight as a way to approach the problem development, this intellectual romance of scholars hopes to offer both a theoretical foundation and a realistic deliberative mechanism for developing effective transnational principles and foundation for global development indices.
